Job overview

You will carrying the responsibility for a defined caseload of  patients within stroke and neurology and will offer support to the dietitians working in the the acute medicine team. This will include performing routine dietetic reviews to ensure dietetic care plans are being followed.

You will be able to give advice under supervision from the dietitian on nutritional interventions for symptom control and disease management.

You will be required to assist in delivering patient and staff education programmes and supervision to student dietitians.

Successful candidates who have previously worked as a Band 3 Dietetic Assistant will be supported through your Band 4 Dietetic Assistant Practitioner competencies.

For successful candidates who have never worked as a Band 3 Dietetic Assistant will undertake our progression programme of competencies and learning as a Band 3 Dietetic Assistant before commencing in the band 4 Assistant Practitioner post.

 

Main duties of the job

The Nutrition & Dietetic Department is a large forward thinking department based across 2 acute hospital sites and is currently managed in 9 teams.

We are looking to recruit a dietetic assistant practitioner to work within the medicine dietetic team.   

Undertaking dietetic reviews  under the direction of a registered dietitian ensuring patients are meeting their nutritional requirements and making progress in achieving their dietetic goals.

Person specification

Education and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Higher level diploma or equivalent
  • evidence of completion of clinical competencies
Desirable criteria
  • basic knowledge of enteral feeding

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous Experience as a Band 3 Dietetic Assistant or other health care support worker
  • Experience of working within a MDT
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising/ mentoring junior staff

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understands own boundaries and when to report to a dietitian
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills
