Job overview
The role will include supervision to the Neonatal Unit, postnatal wards and Transitional Care in Hull Women’s and Children’s Hospital. You will be expected to contribute to the tertiary neonatal unit advice service to Level 1 and 2 services in the Humber & North Yorkshire units through the Embrace referral and transport service.
As a training hospital as, part of your role will be to provide support to trainees in induction, teaching and training and to act as clinical and educational supervisor
A number of outpatients will be included in the rota which will include clinics by telephone/video and face to face for GP referrals under the age of 1 year and for neonatal patients after discharge
Working with the Neonatal team, service development and national strategies for critical care and for quality improvement.
The role will also involve engaging with external agencies eg coroner and social care as required in your capacity as named consultant for the babies.
The successful applicant will contribute to departmental duties like organization of junior doctor rotas, guideline development and other aspects of governance, supervise junior doctor audit and supervision of junior doctor teaching sessions including induction.
Main duties of the job
A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 8 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 for supporting activities (SPAs). 1.5 SPAs are classed as ‘core’ and cover time for training, teaching, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical governance and attendance at service meetings. There are opportunities to participate in undergraduate teaching within the HYMS medical school curriculum. Additional SPA time can be allocated for research, clinical management and educational supervisor (ES) activity. It is envisaged that this post would include the educational supervision of at least one trainee per year who could be from any level of training from FY1 to speciality registrar. It is expected that the appointee will have completed ES training or complete this within a short time of taking up the post. All new appointees will be encouraged to develop their management skills by taking on a management role which could include assisting more senior colleagues with the organisation of educational activities, audit, junior doctor management, recruitment etc. Personal preferences can be taken into account and training will be given for the chosen role. Additional PA time is negotiable for more senior management, research or educational roles within the department.

Professional Registration
Essential criteria

Qualifications and Training

- • MBBS or equivalent qualification
- • Valid ALS certificate

Clinical Experience
