The department is based at the Queen’s Centre, Castle Hill Hospital,  Cottingham; a purpose built centre that has a range of facilities. Cottingham is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, closely located to Hull City centre & the historic market town of Beverley. All areas benefiting from competitive house prices. We have a number of beaches along the east coast, the closest approx. 30 minutes’ drive.  On our doorstep, is the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds countryside. Hull city centre has & continues to be regenerated, or if you prefer to visit a larger city we are a maximum of an hour away from; Leeds, Sheffield & York by car or train.

Main duties of the job

 

The post holder will be a registered Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Therapeutic Radiographer responsible for leading the developing of the radiotherapy service with innovative ideas.

The post holder will have expert knowledge of the Research and Development (R & D) process. The post holder will have expert knowledge of the radiotherapy pathway & will work collaboratively with the wider Radiotherapy MDT, Trust R & D team & the wider radiotherapy community.

 The post holder will be responsible for working with key professionals to develop local service evaluation, audit & support the Oncology clinical trials department.

The successful applicant should have significant experience in supervision & managing staff including continual personal and professional development across the radiotherapy service.

They will share expert clinical knowledge & experience across the full radiotherapy pathway with the ability to manage complex & challenging clinical techniques.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication & interpersonal skills & be able to build good relationships with patients, families & colleagues & within the radiotherapy service & wider MDT. The post holder must have a good understanding of radiotherapy pathway, with experience in pre-treatment, verification & treatment delivery.  Experience on our equipment is not essential; we have 2 Varian Halcyon, & 4 Varian Truebeams, all have IGRT capabilities, 2 Siemens CT scanners & Varian Aria software.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Therapy Radiography or equivalent
  • MSc Radiotherapy studies and/or extensive specialist experience in radiotherapy technique and technology
  • State Registration with Health Care Professionals Council. Evidence of CPD activities.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training
Desirable criteria
  • M level qualification in associated subject. Management qualification. IT skills Society and College of Radiographers Advanced Practitioner Accreditation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical experience in patient support and information.
  • Experience in dealing with clinical problems.
  • Experience in dealing with staff management issues e.g. performance, motivation.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience/awareness of clinical practice at other Radiotherapy centres.
  • Participation in the implementation of new equipment or technology

Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, teaching skills and organisational skills.
  • In depth knowledge of current radiotherapy techniques, technology, oncology, radiation physics, physiology and associated legislation.
  • In depth knowledge of radiotherapy treatment modalities, treatment options, technique options.
  • In depth knowledge of radiotherapy side effects and associated treatments. Ability to critically evaluate radiotherapy practice.
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary environment and to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and delegate work. Ability to lead a team of radiographers and to motivate staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate ambition in personal development and in service development.
  • Good presentation skills.
