Job overview
We are looking to appoint a Band 5 Registered Nurse (mental health or learning disability) to our Inspire CAMHS Inpatient Unit- General Adolescent Unit.
You will be passionate about delivering a high standard of care, working with young people; their families and the professionals who support them to ensure that the care offered is needs based keeping the young person at the heart of all decisions about them.
Inspire consists of 9 bedded General Adolescent Unit (GAU; including a High Dependency Area) a delivering a progressive and innovative service model from a newly built state of the art building and recently rated CQC 'Good'.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, forward thinking and will preferably have experience of working within an inpatient environment or be able to clearly demonstrate strong mental health experiences.
Main duties of the job
You will be involved in providing a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for the young people, whilst providing support to individual young people and their families.
The environment on the unit is therapeutic in helping teach young people through modelling and scaffolding, healthy ways of forming, maintaining and repairing relationships.
Young people will be supported to develop social and emotional understanding and skills through the experience of being on the unit and this will help them to better understand themselves and the way they relate to others.
All successful candidates will be offered a comprehensive and structured development package and informal clinical and professional development. Clinical supervision and facilitated reflective practice are key elements of this.
The service operates the shift model of Long day and Night shifts across a 7-day period.
Opportunities to work on a 6 month rotational basis with CAMHS Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment may be available

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Part III or 13 of NMC live register
- Degree or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning in either nursing, mental health, learning disability or related area
- Willingness to undertake mentorship training and responsibilities
Desirable criteria
- Be on the live register for mentors
- Demonstrable experience of mentoring pre-registration students
- Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning
Experience
Essential criteria
- Willingness to undertake and complete preceptorship; facilitating the transition for newly qualified nurse booklet and core competency development programme.
- Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in mental health/learning disability clinical practice areas
- Understanding of caseload management and care co-ordination responsibilities
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Successful completion of preceptorship
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
- Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
- Act as Care Programme Approach (CPA) co-ordinator
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion
- An understanding of relevant clinical practice/standards within identified clinical area
- Standard IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. NSF, Social Inclusion
- Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
Personal Attributes
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate effective inter-personal/communication skills
- Evidence of good time management skills
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of leadership/management skills and qualities
- Ability to manage daily operations and maintain a safe working environment
