This is an exciting opportunity to join our experienced Children’s Mental Health services team at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialty Doctor.
The role will cover both the Children’s Mental Health Crisis Team and Eating Disorder team. Full support will be given and the postholder will be supported by a team of Consultant Psychiatrists to ensure that all patients receive high quality care. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing care to children and young people with mental health needs, across Hull and East Yorkshire.
As part of their duties, they will:
- Provide senior medical support to the team, and direct input on clinical cases.
- Provide guidance and supervision to the other members of the team.
- Work directly with children and young people and their families and liaise as appropriate with other external CAMHS mental health providers, and the acute Trusts.
- Work alongside CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrists across East Yorkshire and Hull CYPMHS. Develop links already established with the local acute trusts A&E departments and inpatient wards.
- Be responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan, and deliver care.
- Support peers and the team manager and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative.
- Supervise junior colleagues and liaise with other health and social professionals and agencies.
The post holder will be also encouraged to participate in undergraduate teaching of HYMS students.
Although the Specialty Doctor would work independently and have their own case load, they will have the support and guidance of a CAMHS Consultant in the Trust.
Ideally there is a requirement to have approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and the work it entails i.e. assessments in community, police custody, 136 suites etc.

As a Speciality Doctor working for the Children’s and Young People’s mental health team, you will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment. You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.
You would, under supervision, and as part of an MDT assess and manage young people with eating disorders and co-morbid mental health problems which include common presentations in CAMHS (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, Neurodevelopmental disorders). The role includes assessment, formulation, at times psychological treatments such as family-based approaches, psycho-pharmacological treatments, liaison with other agencies, risk assessments and regular CPAs. You would also provide clinical consultation to members of the MDT particularly on psychiatric co-morbidities (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, ASD and appropriate prescribing if indicated) and would support admission to paediatric and psychiatry beds when indicated.
The post holder would be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures.
The ability to commute within the Trusts geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport is essential.

- Full registration with the GMC with a license to practice at time of appointment.
- Section 12(2) approval – at or following appointment.

Essential criteria
- Must have been engaged in medical practice for three out of the last five years including the most recent 12 months.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Clinical Governance
