Job overview

Are you a motivated individual who recognises that social issues can impact on mental health and have a willingness to work with individuals to improve and change social circumstances and work towards recovery and independence?

 Do you have experience working in mental health services, supervising staff and decision-making and looking to progress in your career? Our current bases offer on-site parking and you will be equipped with the necessary IT to work flexibly across our sites.

 We are seeking an Advanced Practitioner, that will take responsibility for supervising and managing workloads of a team of mental health social workers, working with Primary Care network colleagues and supporting the running of a fast-paced city Centre CMHT.

Main duties of the job

Provides a range of advanced/specialist advice, assessment and interventions/programmes of care for individuals referred to services and other professionals as appropriate.

To contribute the specialist social work perspective in reviewing, developing and monitoring operational/social work policy which impacts beyond own area of responsibility. 

Provide social work supervision, specialist advice and or training within own area of specialism to other professionals, patients, relatives. To support the ASYE programme by working with ASYE assessors and candidates.

Participate in staff/student training and development within the Team and wider Adult Mental Health Care Group.

Qualification, Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • MA/BA Social Work Qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Approved Mental Health Practioner
  • Leadership and Management Qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, and their application to social work area, e.g. (Care Act 2014, MH Act 1983, MCA 2005, DOLS)
  • Full understanding/application of relevant practice/standards/audit within identified area (e.g. Professional Capability Framework, ADASS, Framework for Safeguarding)
  • Standard IT skills
  • Advanced/expert understanding of relevant contemporary practice, standards and protocols and issues
  • Evidence of undertaking audits/surveys/research
  • Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant area to advanced level e.g. Masters/post-graduate diploma and equivalent knowledge /experiential learning
  • Evidence of advanced practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
  • Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
  • Leadership/management experience which has had a positive impact and created change within the service delivery/practice
  • Professional networking regionally and nationally and able to effectively Chair meetings

  • Member of specialist interest group/network, regionally or nationally

  • Experience of Adult Social Care Assessment and care delivery.
