Job overview
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic post within the Forensic Division at Humber Teaching Foundation Trust. The post encompasses a role within the inpatient and community forensic setting.
We are looking for a highly skilled and committed Speech and Language Therapist. You will provide specialist speech, language, communication, swallowing and/or dysphagia assessments and evidence-based, clinically proven interventions to forensic service users with complex mental health problems.
You will provide clinical and operational leadership, supporting a small speech and language therapy team, including providing clinical and/or professional supervision and leadership to junior staff members, students and other professionals. The post provides professional oversight, and you will delegate clinical work to the associate practitioner and assistant/s. You will be a core member of the Forensic Therapy Service, within the Forensic Directorate’s division, which provides a coordinated and multi-professional programme of interventions and rehabilitation to meet the individual needs of service users. A component of your work will sit within the forensic community team where you will have an opportunity to work as part of the MDT, providing specialist community consultation, assessment and specialist intervention.
Main duties of the job
· You will ensure carers and family are involved in assessments and planning where appropriate and will be a key professional in social inclusion and fostering relationships and a sense of community for forensic service users.
You will be a senior member of the multi-disciplinary teams ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered which ensures safety, promotes recovery and maximises independence.
You will provide service-user specific and holistic speech and language therapy advice, training and consultation to professionals working with forensic patients in the inpatient and community setting.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent qualification(s), further theoretical training and experience to master's level equivalent
- Relevant Post-basic clinical qualification(s) with a professional portfolio supporting this e.g. dysphagia.
- Ful understanding of relevant policy legislation and guidance relevant to working with Adult and Adult Mental Health, Learning Disability and Personality disorder e.g. Mental Health Act, transforming care etc.
- Knowledge and experience of service improvement and clinical audit
- Understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to working within service area.
- Registered with appropriate clinical professional body: Speech and Language Therapy
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate Neurodevelopment diagnostic training e.g., ADI-R, ADOS, DISCO.
- Post-graduate training in Ayre's Sensory Integration or equivalent area relevant for service users e.g. Sensory Attachment Intervention.
- Post-graduate training in areas relevant to working in mental health
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience working with patients within relevant service area.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective interpersonal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring and teaching
- Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and carers

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
