Whitby is a pretty traditional seaside town in North Yorkshire, situated on the east coast at the mouth of the River Esk.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include: 

  • Assisting qualified staff by undertaking personal care duties for patients.
  • Reporting the patient condition to qualified staff.
  • Undertaking delegated work of the multidisciplinary team to assist in the provision of individualised planned patient care under indirect supervision. Care tasks may include managing the day-to-day needs of patients by providing help with personal care, meals and mobility.
  • Working as part of a team which supports the operation of the ward 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will therefore be required to work shifts including nights, days and weekends

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Range of routine work procedures, requiring job training
  • Knowledge of personal care and related procedures
  • NVQ2 or equivalent experience
  • Care Certificate
  • Be willing to undertake further training and development.
Desirable criteria
  • To possess a health related NVQ qualification or demonstrate willingness to work towards one.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To demonstrate an understanding of provision of nursing care.
Desirable criteria
  • To act in a responsible manner.
  • To have experience of working in a health care environment.

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of team working.
  • Must be flexible
  • Work within other areas of the Hospital.
  • Must be able to work shifts within a 24-hour period.
