Staff Nurse

Band 5

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.

We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

AMU is a 16 bedded male Acute Medical Assessment unit, situated on Hagen Geroke Unit. We receive patients directly from A&E and Ambulatory Care and accommodate patients with a large variety of medical conditions. Patients remain on the unit for approximately 48 hours while investigations are taken place to determine whether admission to the main hospital is necessary or whether discharge would be more appropriate.

The unit is proud to offer a 1:6 nurse to patient ratio with a designated shift coordinator not included in these numbers. These staffing levels reflect the busy nature of the unit and the large turnover of patients.

AMU is dedicated to providing safe and high quality acute medical care to our patients, but is also conscious of the need to develop staff. Working closely with our experienced PEF and specialist nurses, a teaching programme has been introduced covering a variety of topics and a number of competency-based assessments in our team study days.

The chosen candidate can expect to undertake training and learn skills in: venepuncture & cannulation, CVC, ILS, male and female catheterisation, PCAs and if Newly Qualified, supported throughout preceptorship.

AMU is a dynamic, ever-changing, fast-paced area to work. We require enthusiastic individuals with a can do attitude that have the ability to work within our passionate team.
