Job overview

We are looking for a keen enthusiastic registered nurse, experienced and newly qualified to join our dynamic caring team, working in Cancer Medicine and Palliative care.

This is a rewarding and is a fast-paced area delivering high quality specialist care in Cancer Medicine and Palliative care, working alongside Macmillan Nurse Specialists and Community MDT.

Marjory Warren ward has 27 beds, of which provide care to general medical patients and those require End of Life palliative care, liaising closely with Community services and St Luke’s Hospice to ensure that patients can choose a preferred place of care, and receive specialist symptom management control. 

Marjory Warren Ward also receives patients following Chemotherapy and cancer treatment, and medical patients from 16 years old.

We work closely with the Macmillan, and you will receive training, guidance and skills in many areas such as symptom management and control, advanced communication, sepsis pathway and bundle, managing acutely unwell patients as well as delivering End of life care supporting patients and their families.

Nurses that work in this area will be taught to be competent in symptom managements and pain control, monitoring, Nasogastric care, central venous Cather care and undertake the immediate life support course.

Main duties of the job

Your role will involve formulating, giving and receiving patient centered handovers, assessing, developing and implementing patient care plan and evaluating care given, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and ensuring all drug administration is in accordance with legal and Trust directorate policies and procedures

You will ensure the discharge planning process starts on admission, to prevent delays and make good utilisation of ward beds, providing and maintain the highest possible standard of good nursing care.

You will be supported in developing and maintaining good ward management and organisational skills and assist with the provision of an environment conducive to the education of staff.
