Job overview
The Cardiac Physiology Service, based within the modern Essex Cardiothoracic Centre at Basildon Hospital, is seeking a dedicated Senior Cardiac Physiology Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic team. This is a part-time role (22.5 hours per week), with some flexibility in the shift pattern to meet the needs of the service.

Our team provides cardiac diagnostic services across both Basildon District Hospital and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, a regional centre of excellence for cardiac care and interventions. As an accredited Training Centre, we offer comprehensive professional development, supported by a dedicated Training Officer. We have a strong track record of supporting staff progression from assistant roles through to qualified Cardiac Physiologists and beyond.

Main duties of the job
The Senior Cardiac Physiologist Assistant will carry out a range of cardiac diagnostic investigations, including recording and interpreting 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs), as well as fitting and analysing blood pressure (BP) and long-term ECG monitors. The postholder will also support Cardiac Practitioners and Clinical Scientists during exercise treadmill and echocardiography stress tests, ensuring high-quality patient care and accurate diagnostic results.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Minimum Maths and English GCSE level 5-9
- • BLS certification
Desirable criteria
- • Care Certificate
- • Society of Cardiological Science & Technology Diploma in Electrocardiography or NVQ 3 equivalent
Skills
Essential criteria
- • Able to communicate effectively with a range of people in writing
- • Conscientious approach to tasks and excellent attention to detail.
- • Organisational skills including prioritisation of work and taking initiative.
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Practical experience in carrying out and interpreting 12 lead ECG recordings.
- • Proven ability to identify and take appropriate action on clinically significant ECG rhythms.
- • Experience of being in a demanding environment with changing priorities
- • Practical experience in assisting with Cardiac Exercise testing
- • Practical experience in fitting and analysis of ECG recording monitors.
Desirable criteria
- • Practical experience in fitting BP monitors
