Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join our pathology team as a Patient Pathway Co-ordinator.

Cellular Pathology is a collaborative and inclusive team based at Basildon Hospital. Working in an exciting, fast paced and interesting department alongside Histopatholgist consultants and biomedical scientists, supporting patients through their diagnostic pathway.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our hardworking and friendly team.  Previous Medical secretary experience is ideal.

Audio typing experience is essential. 

Main duties of the job

Within your role, your responsibilities will be:

Typing of Histology and  non-gynae reports both handwritten and digitally dictated.

Supporting the consultants and wider teams with the co-ordination of MDTs, general correspondence and referrals to specialist areas.

Co-ordinate, monitor and initiate appropriate changes within administrative processes along the patient pathway to ensure the patient’s journey is managed efficiently, smoothly and in accordance with targets and agreed timescales.

Utilise computerised tracking systems to progress patients through the cancer pathways and chase investigation results.

Liaise with teams outside of the department where appropriate to ensure a seamless patient journey through the histology process.

Provide support, motivation and clear guidance to the A&C team in line with Trust core values and expected behaviours.

Use a variety of approaches in liaising with histology users and colleagues within the laboratory to gain the best outcome for the service in line with Departmental objectives.

Responsible for working with colleagues across Pathology MSE and maintaining the Trust’s good relationships with external agencies including other Trusts.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To hold GCSE Maths & English grade C or above or equivalent certificate
  • RSA/PCR typing/text transcription stage II or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of Medical secretary terminology course/qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous secretarial and typing experience
  • Audio/copy typing ability to type at least 60 words per minute or working towards it.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous secretarial experience in a medical environment
  • Experience of using hospital administration systems

Personal development

Essential criteria
  • Multi-tasking and Workflow Management: Balances various administrative duties maintain a productive work environment. seamlessly, adapting to changing priorities to maintain a productive work environment.
