Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding pool of skilled and experienced Clinical Endoscopists. You will support the delivery of service within the acute setting and within our Community Diagnostic Centres.
You will be expected to undertake all training required to become an independent endoscopist in lower and upper GI procedures to Joint Advisory Group standard (JAG) and evidenced through the JETS system. You will be part of a team critical to service delivery and offering our patients a high standard of care. There may be opportunities to train in other endoscopic procedures but this post will be initially focused on lower and upper GI endoscopy competencies. Once trained to JAG standards, the post holder will provide independent endoscopy lists, training lists for other endosocpists from multidisciplinary and mutliprofessional backgrounds, support MSE endoscopy services in providing high quality endoscopy services from point of referral to point of discharge and help support clinical audit and governance processes to maintain patient safety.

Main duties of the job
- You will be a senior nurse with endoscopy expertise and resource in the care of patients requiring endoscopic investigation and treatment.
- You will support and manage pathways and processes which includes, but is not exclusive to:
- Complex Endoscopic Mucosal Resection service
- Validation and vetting of endoscopy referrals
- Support and enhance pre-assessment especially of complex referrals
- To deliver a high standard of patient care using advanced autonomous clinical skills and an in-depth theoretical knowledge base
- To be a resource of in-depth knowledge in the endoscopy specialist clinical area for both patients and other health care professionals and actively disseminate relevant information through the appropriate channels.
- To provide individualised health promotion, disease protection and prevention offering appropriate advice and education
- To diagnose, interpret and advise on findings under supervision of clinical trainer, communicating to both patients and referrer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a trainee clinical endoscopist, you will be supported to follow the national CE Training Programme. This 30-week programme is designed to train appropriately registered healthcare professionals to perform safe upper GI or lower GI endoscopy procedures. The programme is supported by the Regional Endoscopy Training Academy and provides blended learning and mentorship.
As a trainee clinical endoscopist, you will be provided with 2 training lists per week within MSE. You will complete the blended learning provided by the CE Training Programme and undertake self-directed learning and refection. You will record your progress within JETS and evidence your learning in your JETS portfolio.
Progress to a fully independent JAG accredited endoscopist, requires technical and non-technical skills and demonstration of experience and competence in managing and leading endoscopy lists independently including knowing when to proceed and not, safe administration of sedation and other medication, managing complications, reporting adverse events, leading multidisciplinary teams and communicating with colleagues, patients and families.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with NMC Registration or Allied Health Care Professional with HCPC registration
- BSc in Nursing or BSc in AHP field
Desirable criteria
- Masters degree or working towards
- JAG competence in single modality
- Enhanced or advanced practitioner led clinic experience
- Clinical Reasoning in Advanced Practice module
- History taking and Physical Assessment course
- Non Medical Prescribing Qualification
- Immediate Life Support course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant clinical experience at band 6 or above within a related field, ie gastroenterology, endoscopy, surgery, cancer, ODP, radiology, pharmacy
Desirable criteria
- Experience at AfC band 6/7 evidencing enhanced or advanced level practice
- Experience of document review ie policy/ standard operating procedures
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Application and supporting information demonstrates knowledge of disease and care related to symptom management
- Application and supporting information demonstrates knowledge of GI tract anatomy & physiology
- Evidence of recent academic study at level 6 and desire to complete required courses including Physical Assessment & Consultation, Non- Medical Prescriber
