Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Education team based at Basildon hospital as a Medical Training Officer. 

You will work to provide administrative support to the junior doctors/medical students,  Training Programme Directors, Undergraduate Leads  and Associate DME.  The aim of the role is to provide an excellent experience to the  Trainee Doctors/Medical students and deal with all Study Leave. 

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating comprehensive database
  • Details will include rotations, dates of employment, OOP dates and supervisor details
  • Working closely with colleagues (internal and external  to ensure doctors details and posts are correct
  • Responsible for reviewing TIS and liaising with  NHSE regarding any updates as required
  • Utilising external data systems, i.e. TIS (Trainee Information System) and Oriel (UK wide portal for recruitment to postgraduate medical dental, public health, healthcare science and foundation training)

You will be highly motivated, be able to demonstrate a pleasant and professional manner.

You will need to be highly organised, quick to learn and able to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be:

  • Liaising with Training Programme Directors to identify the local trainees/students who need to be reviewed.
  • Notifying  NHSE/Medical Schools  of any trainees/students who need to reviewed centrally, under the direction of the Training Programme Directors.
  • Organising dates, venues and relevant IT for local ARCP panels.
  • Checking trainee ePortfolio for Educational and Clinical Supervisor Reports, Work Placed Based Assessment entries and Revalidation documentation (Form R) under the guidance and directive of the Training Programme Directors, and in liaison with any other local parties involved.
  • Working with the Training Programme Directors to provide feedback to the trainees who have been reviewed, and to the Educational Supervisors involved.
  • Liaising with the Training Programme Directors in relation to the collation and circulation of any other relevant documentation, i.e. Panel Member feedback.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent medical education experience
  • Good level of education i.e. GCSE or equivalent including English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 4
  • ECDL qualification

Experience

  • Previously worked at a senior level of administration
  • Experience of working with Microsoft packages including excel, word, outlook
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience working as an administrator
  • Experience of working in Medical Education
  • Experience of working in NHS
