Job overview

The Integrated Discharge Team at Mid and South Essex NHS Trust is seeking a highly organised and proactive Administrator to join us on a maternity cover contract.

Our team is a fast‑paced, dedicated group of nurses and support staff who play a vital role in ensuring that patients with complex discharge needs receive timely, well‑coordinated support. As an administrator, you will be essential in helping the team deliver a smooth and effective service for patients, families, and partner organisations.

This position is based at Basildon Hospital, working 18.75 hours per week, and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team that makes a real difference in patient experience and flow across the hospital.

If you are efficient, motivated, and ready to support a busy clinical service, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As the Administrator, you will:

Compile and continually update the complex discharge tracker throughout the day, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all recorded information is accurate and up to date.

Work collaboratively with Nurses, Discharge Facilitators, ward staff, and community colleagues to support the coordination of safe and timely patient discharges.

Liaise with ward teams to ensure Medically Optimised forms are completed promptly, providing advice and support on the correct processes in line with the Community Care (Delayed Discharges) Act.

Send referrals to community teams, ensuring all emails are recorded accurately with clear logs of dates and times.

Carry out a full range of clerical and administrative duties, including responding to enquiries from the public and external agencies by telephone, offering support and guidance as required.

Ensure effective and appropriate information sharing with all partner agencies, in line with Information Governance policies and data protection standards.

Demonstrate strong typing and keyboard skills, producing accurate and timely documentation as needed.

Respond to internal telephone enquiries in a courteous, professional, and supportive manner, seeking clarification when required to ensure correct information is provided.

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well-being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
