Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

If so, we would love to hear from you—our Neonatal Unit is currently seeking a motivated Band 6 Nurse to join our dedicated team.
Our unit provides high-quality care for newborns requiring specialist support, including those born prematurely or with complex medical needs. As a Band 6 Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective, and family-centred care. You will work closely with senior sisters, a multidisciplinary team, support junior staff, coordinate care and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job
Within your role you will:
Provide expert nursing care to neonates requiring special care, including respiratory support, feeding support, and monitoring of vital signs.
Attend the labour ward and operating theatre for crash calls or when babies require admission to the neonatal unit.
Act as shift in-charge when allocated.
Lead clinical decision-making and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning.
Administer medications, manage intravenous lines, and perform neonatal resuscitation when required.
Support education and development of Band 5 nurses, student nurses, and healthcare assistants.
Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Liaise with paediatricians, midwives, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Uphold infection control, safeguarding, and patient safety protocols.
