Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team based at Basildon Hospital.

If successful, you will work in a fast-paced but supportive environment to help our patients get back home and on the right recovery plans. Our team take a dynamic holistic approach to make rapid decisions to aid in getting the right support in place for our patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • •    Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for patients attending Accident and Emergency (A&E), Acute Medical Units (AMU), the Frailty clinic and Frailty Assessment Unit (FAU).
    •    You will have a dynamic approach to work and be capable of leading a team, including in times of change.  You will be expected to manage the daily running of the team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care within the specialty.
    •    This role has a strong clinical focus: You will use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to the integrated therapy team (occupational therapy and physiotherapy) whilst maintaining a clinical caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
    •    You will take part in the weekend and Bank Holiday rota. 
    •    Work as an advanced autonomous practitioner:  Assesses, sets goals, provides treatment, and progresses own patient caseload which contains patients with complex and specialist needs.
    •    Lead in specialist area; contributes to development of specialist services and relevant policies helping implement policy changes and monitoring standards of clinical practice.
    •    Supervise, teach, and evaluate students and other staff working in own specialist area.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registeration
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
Desirable criteria
  • RCOT membership

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in acute inpatient general medicine band 6 or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience working at Band 6 level or above in Frailty, Older People services, acute/ambulatory areas, or community settings.
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate learning and development
  • NHS experience working as an Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of leading others/team
  • Evidence of supervising and appraising less experienced staff
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of service development/ audit
  • Experience of teaching to MDT groups
