Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly General Medical Team as a band 6 Occupational Therapist.

You will work as part of a proactive and enthusiastic , integrated team  of Occupational Therapists,  Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants working on the general medical wards. You will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and management, using evidence based patient centred care, working with other members of the MDT. Promoting independence and planning for safe and timely discharge are key elements of the role.

You will provide leadership, training and supervision to less experienced staff, students, and non qualified staff.

The working pattern for this role will include rostered weekends as part of 7 day working, with off duty days in the week.

Main duties of the job

The post is part of our Inpatient Team which offers the opportunity to work across a variety of inpatient areas including medical & frailty wards and the acute medical unit (front door areas)

The role involves the rapid assessment and management of patients presenting to the hospital to facilitate safe discharge as soon as possible with the provision of any necessary  equipment and care recommendations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to be flexible and thrive in a fast paced environment. They will be responsible for day to day management of the service delivery and manage a complex caseload with support from their band 7 team lead. They will gain experience in supervising staff and become an accredited practice placement educator.

This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to engage others, with a proactive approach to service development. You will also demonstrate a strong commitment to a person centred approach in line with the Trust Values and Behaviours.

Together with the team leaders in our other in-patient specialities, you will support the Clinical Lead and the Therapies Manager in the strategic and operational planning for the department.
