Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Job overview

We are looking for a Research Administrator to join our Research and Development department, which exists to provide an efficient support service for the research delivery teams across the Trust researchers

The Research Administrator provides specialist support to facilitate the overall management of research projects in the Trust, particularly accurate data documentation completion and tracking to enable the safe and effective delivery of research studies that comply with the relevant legislation and research governance requirements. The post holder will also support the research study delivery teams with routine day-to-day administration of studies, such as booking appointments for research patients, to facilitate optimum recruitment into clinical research studies, and preparation for study monitoring /inspections. Additionally, the generic R&D email inbox, ensuring all queries are triaged and either answered directly, or forwarded to the most appropriate individual, in a timely manner.

Based in the R&D office at one of the three main hospital sites and liaising with counterparts in the other two R&D offices, the post holder will provide a comprehensive level of administrative support, including the servicing of meetings, ordering of clinical and office supplies, and maintenance of HR-related data.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the site Research and Development office, providing and receiving complex information regarding R&D activity within the Trust and externally
  • Manage the generic R&D email inbox, ensuring all queries are triaged and either answered directly, or forwarded to the most appropriate individual, in a timely manner
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals at all levels to ensure effective communication from a variety of internal and external sources
  • Be active and visible participant in MSE Procurement Directorate and support the development of a strong culture of teamwork. Support the culture of collaboration, flexible cross-team working and a commitment to delivering high quality service for all customers
  • Signpost research study team members and participants to appropriate resources and support which is pertinent to the study they are part of.
  • Undertake a range of clinical support functions including preparing and collating relevant documentation and equipment for research study visits and clinic attendances
  • In close liaison with the Research Administrators based at the other two sites and  line managers across the team, develop, implement and maintain systems for collating and monitoring R&D staff HR information (appraisals, attendance, leave and expenses)

  • Educated to diploma level in a relevant subject, or equivalent level of experience
