Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional Senior Occupational Health Business Partner to join our forward-thinking and high-performing organisation. This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape Occupational Health services across one of the largest Trusts in the country, supporting a workforce of over 15,000 staff and delivering services across multiple sites.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing strategic leadership and expert clinical oversight while influencing organisational performance, wellbeing, and workforce sustainability. Working closely with senior leaders, you will drive innovation, support commercial growth, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, responsive and effective Occupational Health services aligned with Trust and national priorities.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide senior leadership across Occupational Health services, ensuring the effective delivery of clinical and case management services while maintaining high standards of care, governance and performance. Acting with autonomy, they will lead on complex case management, absence management strategies and workforce health initiatives, providing expert advice to senior managers and stakeholders.
They will oversee service performance through the development and monitoring of KPIs, lead audits, risk assessments and investigations, and ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards. The role includes driving policy development, implementing health and wellbeing strategies, and leading innovation to improve service delivery and workforce outcomes.
The post holder will manage and develop the Occupational Health team, ensuring a skilled, motivated and high-performing workforce, while supporting recruitment, performance management and professional development. They will also contribute to the commercial strategy of the service, supporting contract development and external partnerships, and represent the service at a senior level both internally and externally.

Knowledge and Experience

- Experience and proven track record of operating at a Senior Level
- Extensive experience within NHS Occupational Health
- Proven experience managing major projects in Occupational health using project management tools
- Experience of policy development
- Evidence of work to SEQOHS Accreditation including National Audit
- Experience in managing and leading professional HR and service teams
- Experience with contract bidding income generation within any occupational Health setting
- Experience in managing Flu campaigns in large organisations
- Evidence of Managing HSE inspections
