Job overview

Are you passionate about working with children and their families? Do you have a few hours to spare a week and are looking for some part time work?

We have a fantastic permanent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our small but friendly and experienced paediatric team. This role gives you a chance to work in general paediatrics and paediatric diabetes, alongside Band 6 and Band 7 colleagues. You will work within established multidisciplinary teams providing expert nutritional advice to professionals, patients and carers. It will be based at Basildon Hospital and will cover both inpatients and outpatients. There may also be an opportunity to train and work across other hospital sites within the wider MSEFT paediatric dietetic team.

This role would be ideal for someone with established paediatric clinical experience who will be considered for a Band 6 role. We also encourage applications from individuals with less experience but have a firm interest in working with children and their families. You will join us at Band 5, progressing to Band 6 after successfully meeting paediatric competencies and obtaining relevant clinical experience.

You will join a friendly and enthusiastic paediatric dietetic team. We are looking for someone who is motivated with good communication and team working skills who is excellent, compassionate and respectful.

Main duties of the job

You will work as an autonomous practitioner in providing dietetic assessment, treatment, and management to their own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date dietetic records.

They will use evidence-based principles and current best practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate dietetic interventions.

They will act as a source of expertise and provide a nutrition and dietetic service into the Paediatric caseload at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

To work as an enthusiastic and effective team member, communicating appropriately with patients, carers, other team members and with members of the MDT as required.

To be responsible for a defined area of the service and be confident undertaking all aspects of clinical duties including assessing, treating and managing own caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, working without direct supervision and maintaining comprehensive records.

You will be responsible for supervising, educating and assessing the performance of students and supporting the development of junior staff.

To undertake evidence-based projects to further the clinical practice of self and the team, and to enhance patient care.  To participate in clinical audits and service development.
