Senior Plaster Technician

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plaster Technician to join the Basildon Hospital Plaster room.
You will be experienced in the most up-to-date practises in casting and the use of braces, splints and other devices and will work directly alongside the Orthopaedic Surgical team to provide the best evidence-based care possible to our patients, whether that be in the department, out on the wards or even in theatre.
You will be able to assist the Plaster Room manager and deputise in their absence, and will be expected to assist in the supervision and training of junior staff.

Main duties of the job
To assist the service manager in the daily running of the department and deputise in their absence. Undertake duties including checking stock levels and ordering as required.
Working under doctor’s instruction, sometimes supervised, but mainly unsupervised, the post holder would be called to work in theatre, Accident & Emergency and Wards when splints and plasters need applying.
To be aware of, implement and comply with the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control, Manual Handling, and other policies, Procedures and Protocols.
Communicate with internal and external parties, either through electronic (email) or verbally. This will include G.P’s, Wards, and Consultant’s.
To record care and treatment in patients’ medical records and the Plaster room ledger to maintain an accurate record of work undertaken.
Application and removal of casts, braces, splints and other orthotics.
Removal of rings
Giving Patients written and verbal instructions and advice regarding their casts and splints
Other duties will include cleaning in the workplace to maintain a safe working environment, changing sheets and towels, clearing up spillages and emptying laundry bags.
To provide training to junior colleagues.
