Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Cardiac Catheter Lab Manager within the Cardiac Catheter Labs at the Essex CTC and Mid and South Essex Hospitals which includes the main Basildon hospital site, Southend Hospital and Broomfield hospital. Applicants should be either an experienced Nurse, Cardiac Physiologist or Radiographer with at least 5 years cardiac cath lab and cardiology experience at a senior level.

Main duties of the job

The Essex CTC is a progressive, dynamic centre, invested in research and delivering high quality patient services.

There are 4 cardiac catheter labs in the Essex CTC, and one diagnostic lab on each of the three sites within MSE (basildon, Southend and Broomfield) hospitals.

Applicants should have a clean driving license or means to travel across sites with the main site being the Essex cardiothoracic Centre.

The labs undertake all diagnostic and interventional cardiology, Electrophysiology, Structural and device work.

The Essex CTC provides a PPCI, OHCA and bracy pacing 24/7 service for the population of Essex and Suffolk borders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role provides senior operational leadership for the cardiac catheter laboratories and associated day stay areas across the Trust, combining unitlevel management with advanced clinical and professional expertise. The post holder is responsible for the safe, efficient and highquality delivery of all catheter lab services, ensuring effective scheduling, optimal use of resources and a consistently positive patient experience. Working in a fastpaced and evolving environment, the role requires a proactive and forwardthinking leader who can drive service improvement, strengthen pathways and support staff through change. The post holder will oversee performance, quality, governance and workforce management, using data and audit to inform decisions and implement sustainable improvements in patient flow and access. They will work collaboratively with senior management, clinical leads, matrons and multidisciplinary teams across all MSE sites to ensure cohesive service delivery, robust communication and alignment with Trust priorities. The role also includes responsibility for procurement, stock management and capital planning for catheter lab equipment, ensuring services remain safe, modern and fit for purpose.
