Job overview

The psychological therapies Service (PTS) is a hospital-based service, offering treatment to both inpatients and outpatients from a wide range of medical specialities.

 We are vibrant, multidisciplinary team which includes psychotherapists, counsellors, clinical and counselling psychologists, creative therapists and administrators.

You will become part of a small team of psychological staff embedded in the medical team working with oncology and palliative care patients. Each day will involve a mixture of inpatient and outpatient work. There a opportunities for creative, joint and group work.

You will be supported by the wider PTS team that has staff in other clinical areas at Basildon and across the other MSEFT sites. We prioritise supporting our staff and their development by providing both individual and group supervision as well as regular team discussions/ away days. We are looking for you to be an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual, who is resilient and able to meet the challenge of this complex work. 

We require you to be able to work on their own imitative as well as in a team with a displayed interest in the link between physical and psychological health.

Main duties of the job

You will provide psychological screening, psychosocial information, assessment and treatment to patients and their families in the oncology and palliative care service.

To provide consultation around complex psychological issues to the wider multidisciplinary team by involvement in relevant MDT meetings.

You will offer training to staff on relevant psychological and mental health issues.

Ensure and help provide a coherent approach to supporting staff working in the area.

  • To provide specialist input with clinical autonomy, working in ways which are sensitive to the needs of patients and staff from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • relevant professional accreditation
  • degree level (1) or above (2) professional qualification as listed on Job specification
Desirable criteria
  • additional post qualification model , eg Act, Mindfulness, CBT, EMDR

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience working with patients psychologically in a hospital setting
  • Experience providing reflective practice to non psychologically trained staff
  • Experience teaching non psychological professionals psychological concepts.
Desirable criteria
  • experience facilitating and working with patients in a group setting
  • NHS experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to present written material concisely and professionally
  • Demonstrate relevance of experience and skills to job role on application form
