Job overview

The Acute Inpatient Service provides 24 hour treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic setting, actively engaging and involving people who are experiencing an acute mental health episode which cannot be managed in a less restrictive setting, owing to the degree of risk, clinical need or patient choice. Many of those admitted will require detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Amendment Act 2007. Where necessary, intense supervision and support will be provided.

 

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate, ambitious, Band 5 RMN to join our fabulous Acute Adult Inpatient Service, Chelmsford on Galleywood Ward.

Patients receive individualised care and treatment based on the Care Programme Approach (CPA) which highlights crisis management and a place of safety, specialised risk assessments and risk management, intensive assessment, treatment and therapy, stabilisation of acute symptoms and relapse prevention.

The service offers:

  • Assistance to acquire and enhance coping skills that promote and enable self- help and the self-management of mental health problems and difficulties
  • Collaborative, structured approach towards assisting people to achieve their own recovery
  • Diverse range of care interventions
  • Individualised planning of treatment and care
  • Specialist mental health and risk assessment

Staff in these wards work closely with the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (CRHT) and the Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT).

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

If successful you will be involved with a wide multi-disciplinary team caring for adults. It is essential that you are interested in and excited at the opportunity to work with adult people, but training will be provided. You will care for your patients holistically,  and work in a Multi- disciplinary setting . You will be able to adapt quickly to changing situations and provide high quality care to your patients.

EPUT offer a fantastic relocation package of up to £8,000. Covering a number of expenditures for new recruits relocating from 30 miles or more from their new work base at EPUT.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registration Mental Health Nurse RMN Part 3
  • Meet the requirements for revalidation as set out by the NMC
  • Good standard of written and spoken English

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of health legislation, principles of CPA and Care Management, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act 1983 and safeguarding, the NHS Constitution, and risk assessment / management
  • Understanding of / and the ability to conduct assessments and review of care in line with the requirements of the mental health care clusters
  • The ability to devise comprehensive care plans that incorporate effective, individualised and evidence-based therapy interventions

Skills/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Literate in IT/Computer Skills
  • Team working skills
  • Able to formally supervise junior colleagues
