Job overview
The Senior Staff Nurse under the supervision of the Clinical Lead is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes. He/she is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures and supervise qualified and unqualified staff.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be designated to take charge on a regular basis of the ECT clinic as required, and will also fulfil the role of primary nurse to a group of patients. and assist in the delivery of ECT. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care and is designated to take charge regularly of the ECT suite in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility. The post holder is expected to supervise and be able to teach unqualified staff, including basic and post basic learners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide effective individual nursing care under the supervision of Clinical Lead for an allocated group of patients by:
- Assist in the management of the ECT Clinic and develop individual treatment plans.
- Provide and oversee the management and care of service users.
- Assessing with the patients their physical, psychological and social problems and need for nursing assistance.
- Preparing and updating the nursing care plans including treatment delegated by medical staff.
- Integrating the care and treatments for other disciplines into the care plans.
- Giving skilled nursing care and treatments.
- Planning the involvement of the patient’s relatives, teaching and supervising nursing techniques in preparation for the transfer home.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RMN experience of clinical mental and general health care
Desirable criteria
- ECT ECTAS nurse foundation training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the role of the Support Worker
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates an awareness of clinical care management of patients undergoing intravenous infusion, anesthesia, & ECT treatment
