Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic and motivated Registered Children's Nurse with a commitment to family-centred care, to join our team on the Children’s Burns Ward as a band 5 Nurse. We have both a full time and part time vacancy available.

The Children’s Burns ward is a small, friendly unit consisting of eight beds in total. We provide a high standard of specialised care for children, young people and their families who have sustained burn injuries or experienced significant medical skin loss. We also care for children requiring outpatient burns care in our burns dressings clinics held daily on the ward.

The ward forms part of the St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, a world renowned service, promoting an excellent standard of care and professionalism within this specialty.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must have experience with looking after sick children, and a knowledge of burn care would also be preferable but is not essential.

The role will involve caring for inpatient children with burns injuries and medical skin loss, and also  children requiring outpatient care in our dressings clinics held daily on the ward. The burns unit also has a new outreach service known as "The Burns Bus" which travels to various parts of the London and South East Burns Network to provide burns care close to patients homes.

There will also be the opportunity to work alongside the intensive care team caring for children with life threatening burn injuries in the ITU setting.

The successful applicant will be fully supported, with in house specialist training, mentoring and preceptorship.

Working for our organisation

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) brings together key health, care, community, and voluntary sector organisations from across our area. Our aim is to work together in partnership to join up health and care services, improving our populations health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. One such example of this collaborative work is the launch of our HCA Academy, an ICS initiative between Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) to support the incoming Health Care assistant (HCA) workforce. The academy models a ‘one workforce’ cross system approach to the onboarding, induction, education, and experience of Healthcare Assistants.

Successful candidates to this role will be able to access the additional support provided by the HCA Academy following their induction with MSEFT. This includes development opportunities, pastoral support, staff rewards and access to HCA exclusive resources such as HCA App.
