Job overview

We are currently recruiting for Band 6  Charge Nurse to help maintain our high standard of care and flow of patients through a busy minor injuries unit. 

You will need to be able to cope in a busy and dynamic clinic environment, working alongside the Emergency Nurse Practitioners, health care support workers and medical staff, to help with patient flow.

The Charge nurse role provides an exciting opportunity to learn extended skills, such as assessment of minor injuries, requesting imaging and supporting with treatment plans.  It is a fast paced clinical area, with great learning opportunities, two days are never the same. 

Main duties of the job

Co-coordinator role within the Minor Injuries/ GP unit, ensuring timely and safe management of patients

Undertake initial assessments for patients streamed using minor injury/GP pathway including imaging, analgesia, initial first aid, with clear prioritisation and escalation of concerns. 

Promotion of good communication is vital within a multi disciplinary team, to ensure safe and effective care. 

Promote innovative and flexible responses to changing service demands ensuring the need of the patients, carer’s families and staff are met.

To act as point of contact for department staff and support the Emergency Departments KPI's.

Be responsible for the co-ordination of the Minor Injuries/GP unit during operational hours.

You will be required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of efficient and effective care through the management of available resources. At this level you will be expected to work as a skilled and senior Emergency Nurse, to have extensive and thorough knowledge of current Emergency Care theory and practice.

  • NMC registration
  • Evidence of ongoing development and education related to speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of ATLS/TNCC or TILS training ALS

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Staff Nurse in Emergency Care Nursing.
  • Knowledge regarding minor injuries and treatment plans
