Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a trainee medical photographer to join our team for a fixed two year period. The position is part time, working between 22.5 hours per week (three days)

The medical photography service operates over three sites; Basildon Hospital and Broomfield Hospital are the base sites and the department is re-establishing services at the Southend Hospital site.  The department/s are busy units photographing approximately 10,000 patients per year (at each base site).

Candidates should ideally have a qualification in photography and have had experience of working within the photography field. Evidence of work experience within a Medical Photography department would be highly desirable. Experience with working with video would also be desirable as the department is keen to develop this service.

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, conscientious and be able to work well in a team and also independently. You will have sufficient computer skills and be familiar with Photoshop, Office and possibly some experience of databases. As you will be expected to work closely with medical and support staff, good communication skills are essential.

If you are interested in the role and believe you hold the qualities we require, then apply today!

Main duties of the job

Principle duties will be clinical photography for various specialties including, Plastics, Dermatology, Tissue Viability, Maxillo-facial, Burns and Ophthalmology (Burns and Ophthalmology are at Broomfield base). Initially this will be under supervision until the post holder is able to work independently.

There is the opportunity to undertake the graduate (or post graduate) certificate in clinical photography in the second year of employment - course commences January 2026.
