Our MS service provides care to patients and their families throughout the course of their illness. We also work with patients who are admitted to the in-patient wards and our dedicated day care infusion unit. Heath promotion and patient education are key components of our role. We are proud of our record of delivering high quality safe care within a robust clinical governance framework. We are able to offer you the opportunity to develop your skills and competencies as a clinical nurse specialist, both though departmental training and in collaboration with the MS Trust.

Main duties of the job
The MS Nurse will provide specialist care to individuals with Multiple Sclerosis and their families within the Mid Essex MS service. They will coordinate both routine and complex care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to create individualised care plans. Supporting newly diagnosed patients, attending clinics for supervision and development, and providing evidence-based information are key responsibilities.
A core aspect of the role involves developing expertise in disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), including understanding eligibility, side effects, and monitoring requirements. The nurse will also conduct telephone and nurse-led clinics under supervision, offering guidance and support while progressing towards advanced qualifications in Clinical Assessment and Non-Medical Prescribing.
In addition to supporting in-patient care, the MS Nurse will contribute to service improvements, participate in multi-disciplinary meetings, and advocate for patients. They will collaborate with community and voluntary organisations, manage referrals, and engage in research and development to enhance service quality.
