Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacist to contribute to the care of patients admitted to our acute medical and frailty units.
You will be joining a small, friendly and well respected team working across the emergency floor at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford (part of Mid and South Essex Hospitals NHS Trust).
The pharmacy department at Broomfield Hospital is a professional, forward thinking department which gives all staff the opportunity to develop their full potential.
Please note this is a fixed-term contract for 12 months.
Main duties of the job
You will be based at the Broomfield Hospital site, will be an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, and will work to provide excellent care to patients in acute medicine and frailty.
You will help to improve patient care through effective medicines reconciliation and medicines optimisation. The role will also include ensuring protocols and guidelines are in line with local and national objectives to ensure cost-effective and safe prescribing within the department.
You will have excellent communication and negotiating skills working closely with patients and multi-professional teams throughout the Emergency Village. You will be able to work under pressure and alone with excellent prioritisation skills.
You will ideally be (or working towards being) a qualified independent prescriber having achieved a minimum of a clinical diploma in pharmacy practice.
The role will also include an allocated area of responsibility within the pharmacy education and training team.
The successful applicant will contribute to the 7 day clinical pharmacy service to the emergency floor, which will involve working weekends (8am to 4pm) with flexible days off during the week in return
