Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative pharmacist to join the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) Pharmacy Team. Based at Broomfield Hospital, this cross-site role focuses on leading the delivery of a high-quality Homecare service and ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of High Cost Drugs (HCD) across the Trust.

The successful candidate will bring strong communication skills and experience in Homecare and HCD commissioning. They will work closely with NHS England and the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) to ensure appropriate funding and utilisation of HCDs within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Lead, manage, and evaluate the delivery of a high-quality Homecare (HC) and High-Cost Drugs (HCD) medicines optimisation service across all clinical specialties, aligned with national guidance and commissioning intentions.

Oversee the development of clinical pharmacy staff to support current and future HC service needs, promoting clinical excellence.

Manage medicines management processes, clinical and financial governance, and risk management within the service.

Ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of HCD, maintaining oversight of drug expenditure across all areas.

Provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to an assigned specialty.

Contribute to the strategic planning, delivery, and monitoring of pharmacy services, with a focus on HC and HCD.

Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure service quality, safety, and efficiency.

Lead on the implementation and tracking of NICE Technology Appraisals (TAs) across relevant services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy ( or equivalent )
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent Post Graduate Qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate Leadership /management qualification
  • Active Independent prescriber

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant HCD commissioning experience
  • Line management experience
