Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join our progressive Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to work with the Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team on the Broomfield site

Our small but friendly team cover a 5 day service ( Mon - Fri)  providing  triaging and support to patients in both the ward and outpatient setting. Caring for patients with respiratory conditions including the assessment of home oxygen on the wards.

As well as assessing and supporting respiratory patients on the wards, your role will also include working in the outpatient  clinics reviewing respiratory patients. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our consultant and respiratory nurse specialist team and help develop this service so that we can enable a seamless journey for the patient through this pathway.

If you feel you have the compassion and professionalism to help shape this service and deliver an excellent patient experience then we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide a comprehensive & holistic assessment of patients with asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions  who are referred for review as inpatients. Once deemed competent and skilled this will include outpatients within nurse-led and consultant clinics.

You will advise other staff about appropriate respiratory medications for the patient., assess patients for home oxygen and ensure that all patients have the necessary consent and an IHORM carried out prior to oxygen installation.

When risks are deemed too high you will be responsible for organising MDT meeting with all concerned parties, and complete risk assessments, before installations occur to proactively mitigate risks for the individual patient. Making any necessary referrals to appropriate services required.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your management and clinical skills with support from the senior nursing teams who will work alongside you.

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
