Job overview

We are looking for a Specialist Safeguarding Nurse to join our Safeguarding team.

If successful you will support the Safeguarding Children & Young People Associate Director, the Named Nurse and Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children to fulfil MSEFT responsibilities as set out in the Working Together to Safeguard Children document.

You will use your experience and expertise to provide specialist advice to staff, peers, other professionals, and multi-agency partners on all aspects of safeguarding children and unborn babies.

Main duties of the job

If successful, some of your duties will include:

  • To provide support and expert guidance to all MSE staff to assist them in meeting their responsibilities for the safeguarding of children.
  • To support the operational management of complex child protection cases as they arise.
  • To maintain records and statistics of child protection cases to inform the Quarterly reporting requirements.
  • To escalate any risks or concerns to the Named Nurse/Midwife for Safeguarding Children.
  • To support staff in the implementation of guidance and legislation into practice and offer expert advice and support at a local / service level.
  • To assist in the monitoring and assurance of the implementation of safeguarding guidance and legislation, including regular auditing as required.
  • To support staff in the implementation of mental capacity guidance for young people aged 16-17 years, ensuring that the guidance is applied correctly and in the best interest of the young person.
  • To plan and deliver Safeguarding Children training for staff across the Trust.
  • To maintain appropriate safeguarding records where appropriate in line with NMC guidance on record keeping.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered on part 1, 2,7,8,10,11 or 15 of the NMC register.
  • 1st degree in relevant subject or demonstrating equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant safeguarding supervision training
  • Safeguarding Children training at level 4
  • Recognised teaching qualification or experience of delivering training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of extensive management of complex safeguarding cases
  • Significant post-registration experience
  • NHS safeguarding experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering training
