Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Urology Staff Nurse to join the Urology Centre at Broomfield hospital.
You will work with the ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the ward team.
Following the preceptorship period, you will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise unqualified and adaptation staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
You are expected to be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified and provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times the patient’s privacy and dignity.

Main duties of the job
Your duties will be:
- To provide and maintain the highest possible standards of patient care.
- To develop and maintain good ward management and organisational skills.
- To provide effective support for the ward manager and sister/charge nurse, ensuring self-development in the day-to-day management of the ward.
- Under the supervision of the ward / department manager to work on delegated projects relating to local policy and service development.
- To be involved actively in the implementation of Trust policies and procedures at ward / department level, reinforcing their use.
- Maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills, at first under supervision, using the Trust’s Performance Review System, enabling standards of patient care to be monitored constantly and improved.

1. Assessing, developing and implementing patient care plans, evaluating care given, ensuring that all documentation is completed accurately.
2. Participate in the formulation and updating of Trust policies and procedures related to speciality.
3. To ensure all drug administration is in accordance with legal/NMC and Trust/Directorate policies and procedures.
4. Assisting with safe custody, storage and control of all drugs at ward level.
5. After assessment of patient group directives be able to administer drugs to patients.
6. The post holder will develop organisational and managerial skills.

Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification(ENB998 or equivalent)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in an acute clinical environment as trained or student nurse
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience of working in an acute care environment and performing competencies at an advanced level. Evidence of link nurse duties or involvement in auditing and training.
Communication
Essential criteria
- Good level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills.
Personal and People Development
Essential criteria
- Maintain empathy and professionalism.
- Able to deal with a diversity of people at all levels ranging from medical and nursing staff to patients, relatives, different age groups, people with different ethnic backgrounds and beliefs Aware of current professional nursing issues.
