Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Associate Practitioner to join our outstanding and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Team, working within Mid Essex. You will provide direct clinical work  to children under the guidance of therapists, across a range of settings including: clinics; mainstream schools, and special schools.  You will liasise with familes, education staff and the wider muti-disciplinary team, and be required to perform patient-related administrative tasks.

The post holder will manage their own caseload and work independently, without direct supervision, and be proficient in the delivery of care to children and families.  The successful candidate will have previous experience working with children with speech, language and communication needs, and will be supported by our well-respected and highly motivated team. The postholder will have access to regular supervision, in-house training, and whole-team meetings. 

This post also requires the candidate to drive to various locations, predominantly, within Mid-Essex.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work for Provide as part of the Children’s and young people’s speech and language therapy service, delivering care within the community.

You will:

Work with parents/carers/educational settings to implement programmes of care as devised by the speech and language therapist.

Carry out observation and information gathering to contrinute to the SLT's assessment and intervention. This will include multidisciplinary working,

Undertake routine administrative tasks in line with departmental guidance, and participate in clinical supervision and the support of junior members of the team.

Manage your own workload and work unsupervised.

The post holder will need to have underpinning knowledge to adapt programmes of care to meet the individual’s needs and to have an understanding of therapy approaches, resources available, suitability and effectiveness of resources.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will work for Provide as part of the Children’s and young people’s speech and language therapy service within the community.
  • The post holder will work with parents/carers/educational settings to implement and adapt evidence-based programmes of care to support the children’s speech, language and communication needs as devised by the therapy team.
  • The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload and work unsupervised.
  • The post holder will work with multidisciplinary agencies.
  • The post holder will need to have underpinning knowledge to adapt programmes of care to meet the individual’s needs and to have an understanding of therapy approaches, resources available, suitability and effectiveness of resources.  They will also update targets and goals in consultation with the case holder and contribute to care plans and reports.
  • To support the delivery of the SLT Service in healthcare and educational settings, including representing the service as meetings related to their caseload.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision.
  • The postholder will supervise Therapy Assistants developing their knowledge and skills.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Achieved NNEB or BTEC in nursery nursing or have a level 3 diploma
  • At least 3 years experience working with CYP with SLCN
Desirable criteria
  • ELKAN Level 3 trained
  • Training in therapy approaches, e.g. PECS, Attention Autism

Desirable

  • Knowledge of resources to support CYP with SLCN
  • Knowledge and experience delivering SLT interventions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working with teaching/support staff in educational settings
