Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual, to join our Community Diagnostic Centre at Clacton Hospital as a Receptionist.

We are looking for an experienced receptionist to join the service to work as part of a team providing an efficient and effective reception service to patients and visitors attending the Community Diagnostic Centre.

You will be confident in dealing with issues of confidentiality and able to provide a high level of customer care, ensuring patients details are accurately recorded and the relevant documentation generated to support safe patient care. You will have good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills and be able to work under pressure.

You will be instrumental in creating a good ‘first impression’ of both the Trust and the Department with opportunities to be involved in enhancing the service.

The post is varied and interesting and if you enjoy involvement with the general public and healthcare professionals this is the post for you.

This post is full time with shift work, and may include 08:00 - 20:00 shifts and some weekend working. 

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a high quality, approachable and helpful reception service for all patients and visitors
  • Ensure that all patients are registered efficiently and accurately, both on the SystmOne and Careflow systems as required
  • Flexible to provide cover for annual leave, bank holidays and sickness absences.
  • Check CPIS and access the child protection system when requested by medical staff.
  • Collect and record personal information from patients/relatives on arrival in the department in an appropriate and confidential manner. At times this may be a challenging task, given that patients/relatives may arrive in a distressed or shocked state. You will take responsibility for alerting the nursing staff immediately in the case of patients needing immediate urgent assessment, Identify, communicate and act on changes to patient’s condition and interpret the significance of data observed and recorded.
  • Generate computerised cards, labels and electronic wrist bands for each patient when registering a patient.
  • Show ability to respond quickly and efficiently to unexpected patient’s needs.
  • Ensure all documents are scanned in a timely manner
  • During periods of computer down time, to ensure all relevant data is recorded manually, and entered on to the computer at the earliest opportunity. Report computer problems to the on-call engineer.
  • To collect extra data for projects/research as requested by medical and management staff

Essential criteria
  • GCSE grade 5/C or equivalent in English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in administration/secretarial or equivalent
  • AMSPAR
  • Medical terminology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent IT and Computer Literacy Skills
  • Able to work under Pressure and as part of a Team
  • Excellent Communication Skills, verbal and non-verbal
  • Excellent Conflict Resolution skills
Desirable criteria
  • Reception/Ward Clerk experience in Primary Care or Hospital based setting

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS 5 year plan and the introduction and use of CDC’s and the patient profile
