Job overview

Are you looking to take the next steps in your podiatry career and develop your skills in diabetic foot disease and take your first steps in to diabetic foot MDT clinic working?

We welcome applications from candidates who are newly qualified or looking to return to practise. 

Based in North East Essex, Working across community clinics.  You will be supported by senior podiatrist and diabetes specialist podiatrist and have access to x-rays, ultrasound, ABPI and toe pressures, blood requests, community casting and PGDs.

Within this role, while community based you will also attend the Diabetic Foot MDT clinic that runs twice weekly at Colchester Hospital. The clinic comprises of Diabetes consultants, Podiatrists, Diabetes Specialists nurses, Vascular and orthopaedic consultants, Vascular nurses, orthotist, plaster room, Plastic surgeons, OPAT and nursing support.  

The service offers the opportunity to see wide range of clients as we support people of all ages, and a variety of conditions including diabetic foot, vascular issues, nail surgery, and biomechanics.

Training can be provided for those who need IRMER, ABPI, casting and PGDS training.  We also support those who do not already have the diabetic foot course to complete  this as well as other courses relevant to professional development.

ESNEFT has a flexible work policy and we are also able to consider those wishing to consider part time or job share. 

Main duties of the job

The service takes referrals for any age and has recently launches self-referral portals for adults to self-refer and get self-management advice.  Self-management and education of patients to self- manage where suitable is strongly encouraged in the service.  We provide general NHS podiatry services including biomechanics as well as Diabetic podiatry and we also work in the MDT diabetic foot clinic. 

Due to the variety of our service there are excellent opportunities to develop your skills which are supported by our Band 6 and 7 podiatrists through rotations in our well established biomechanics, diabetes and pediatric clinics. We also have a close working relationship with the orthotics service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Podiatrist with HCPC
  • Professional knowledge and skills acquired through a combination of formal training, short courses and experience to degree level of equivalent
  • Recognised registered qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Registered member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad range of assessments including specialist relevant to the specialist care group and the relative benefits of each.
  • Awareness of national guidance relevant to own specialities, including, consent issues, and other legal frameworks relating to care group
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Work as part of an integrated team
  • Use Word, Powerpoint, email, excel and access (or similar spreadsheet or database packages)
  • Supervise the work of students, assistants and volunteers
  • Car owner/driver/access to a motor vehicle (role will involve travel to other sites that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means)
