Job overview
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic radiographer/mammographer to join our close knit family. We are the Chelmsford and Colchester Breast Screening Unit serving the population of North and Mid-Essex. This post is part time 30 hours per week to cover maternity leave until 1st April 2025. You will be a qualified Mammographer holding a Post Graduate Award in Mammography.
We have 11 mobile screening sites including Clacton, Braintree and South Woodham Ferrers . Chelmsford is just 40 mins from the metropolis of London and 30 mins to Stansted Airport opening up the rest of the world for you to enjoy. All this with the option of living in the quiet peace of the Essex/Suffolk countryside.
Two major hospitals are within our catchment area so working in rapid diagnostic clinics is part of the weekly workload. Both Broomfield and Colchester hospitals are equipped with state of the art GE Pristina Mammography machines, 2D and 3D are regularly used in assessment clinics and in Colchester the exciting new technology of CESM (Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography) has been introduced.
Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please ensure you have discussed this with your line manager.
Main duties of the job
- To produce high quality mammographic images, within the NHS Breast Screening Programme and Symptomatic mammography services across North and Mid Essex, at both static and mobile sites
- To participate in an effective Quality Control Programme to maintain the highest of standards as required by the NHSBSP
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standards of patient care
- To provide professional supervision and guidance to all more junior members of staff
- To participate in Continuing Professional Development and other developmental activities
- To act as an information resource for clerical staff, radiography students and all visitors to the Breast Unit
and cascade knowledge to trainee mammography radiographers and assistant practitioners
We have a cohort of young forward thinking radiologists who are keen to embrace new technologies and encourage Radiographers to expand their skills. The 4 tier structure is supported within the department with radiographer’s film reading, performing Interventional procedures, cannulating for CESM and carrying out audits. A robust appraisal system is in place and staff wellbeing and patient experience is at the heart of everything we do.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) Radiography/Diploma of The College of Radiographers or equivalent
- HCPC registered
- Certificate of Competence in Mammography/Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography Practice
Desirable criteria
- Member of Society of Radiographers ( or other indemnity insurance)
- Experience of clinical audit
- IT literate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate general radiography experience or other life experience
- Thorough knowledge of IR(ME)R and IRR 99
- Understanding of evidence based practice
- Ability to communicate well at all levels
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Multidisciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
- Previous mentoring/training experience
- Willingness to undertake further post graduate training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of knowledge of NHSBSP, cancer services and breast care
- Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
- Understanding of QMS
- Confident with PACS processes
