Job overview

Do you thrive on a challenge? Are you methodical with the drive to succeed? Have you got the determination and desire to make a real difference to the lives of people in East Suffolk and North Essex?

Due to a recent promotion within the department, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the General Surgery team at Colchester hospital as an Operational Co-ordinator.

This opportunity will allow you to play a major role in the continuing development of service delivery for the benefit of our patients where care and compassion are central to everything we do.

You will have the opportunity to further develop your operational and management skills in a supportive and innovative atmosphere, including staff and business management. This is your chance to become a key part of a large, innovative and forward thinking organisation.

You will work alongside the service manager and an engaged team of dedicated healthcare professionals in a fast pace and challenging
environment to ensure a high quality service is provided to our patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for ensuring that day to day activity runs smoothly, liaising with multiple stakeholders both within and externally to the
Trust.

In addition, you will manage the administrative team within general surgery, supporting them to move patients through their treatment
pathways within appropriate timescales.

You will be accountable for theatre and clinical utilisation and overseeing the medical staffing rota. You will need to have a working knowledge of NHS performance standards pertaining to 18 week referral to treatment targets as well as cancer
treatment standards.

You will also encourage high performance from the staff, with the aim to maintain a high quality comprehensive service.

You will ideally have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and experience within a healthcare setting. You will also need to be a skilled
communicator with dogged determination.

Whilst we are ideally looking for someone with relevant experience an individual with demonstrable transferable skills would be considered. A
developmental role would be considered for the right applicant.

You must be a ‘team player’ working in a way that encourages high performance from other staff, with the aim of maintaining efficiency within the department. We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic individual for this position.

If you would like to be part of this dynamic team, we want to hear from you.

Working for our organisation

We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics and in patients’ own homes.

We are one of the largest NHS organisations in England, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what’s widely regarded as the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.
