Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the most forward thinking, innovative and proactive Therapies teams in the East of England!
This role will be working with the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams across the Colchester Hospital Site.
It offers the opportunity to rotate within therapies to clinical specialties such as Respiratory Medicine, Surgical wards, Critical Care, Orthopaedics: Trauma and Elective, Medical wards, and Older peoples services.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Therapy assistant to work with the team to assess, treat and complete referrals for a wide variety of patients.
You should have experience of working in rehabilitation ideally within an NHS setting, be enthusiastic and keen to work with the Therapies team to provide an excellent service. You will need to have good communication and organisation skills, be a team worker and able to use your own initiative.
The ideal candidate would be educated to Foundation degree/ level 5 Qualification in Healthcare / Sport and Exercise Science or similar.
You will be supported by qualified therapists, working within a competency framework and will be given all necessary training for the job. You will manage your own workload and participate in team and service development.
You will be expected to work weekends, approximately 1 in 5, as part of our 7 day service.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in healthcare, fitness or rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
- 2 years’ experience working as a physiotherapy and/or Occupational therapy assistant.
- NHS experience in any clinical role
Quaification
Essential criteria
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths or equivalent
- Level 3 Qualification in Health and Social Care OR Foundation degree / BSc in Healthcare or sports science
Desirable criteria
- Associate membership of CSP/ RCOT
- Care Certificate
- GCSE grade C/4 or above in a science subject
- GCSE or equivilent in computer science / ICT
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of role of Physiotherapy and / or Occupational Therapy
- Knowledge of basic rehabilitation assessment and therapy interventions, exercise prescription and monitoring
Desirable criteria
- To have an understanding of human anatomy and how the body is affected by illness.
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
- Good IT skills
- Ability to work across a 7 day shift pattern
- Good level of general health and physical fitness
- Effective communication skills – verbal and written English
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using NHS clinical systems
- Experience of managing own time / delegated caseload
