Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic Senior Clinical Psychologist to join EPUT’s perinatal psychological services for mothers, birthing people and their infants. The Perinatal Mental Health Service (PMHS) provides high quality maternal mental health and wellbeing support and intervention to mothers, birthing people and their infants across Essex.

PMHS are pleased to offer an 8a Senior Clinical Psychologist post 0.6 wte permanent role . PMHS consists of five perinatal hubs across Essex, with a staff mix comprising of Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology and specialist roles such as nursery nursing, social work and OT.  PMHS works with a range of services to support a mother’s emotional wellbeing including maternity and health visiting, primary and secondary care mental health services. PMHS aims to provide streamlined, timely and effective care for mothers and birthing people in the perinatal period. This part time post will be in North East Locality (Colchester & Coastal towns). 

Main duties of the job

·       The postholder will provide clinical leadership and support to the Perinatal Mental Health Service, responsible for the NE locality psychology provision. The role will oversee the delivery of psychological perinatal therapies, leading and supervising a small team of qualified and junior psychology staff as well as supporting the Principal Practitioner Psychologist (North Psychology Lead) and the Consultant Clinical Psychologist with service delivery and governance. 

·       The role will expect the postholder to oversee the flow and capacity demands for psychological therapies, working closely with the PMHS Clinical Lead and Senior managers to meet service deliverables. 

·       There will be an expectation for the postholder to lead on assessment and treatment pathways as well as interface development with local stakeholders and partner agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role with the Perinatal Mental Health Service (PMHS) will be to provide evidence based perinatally informed psychological therapies to mothers through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period up to the infant age of 2 years.

·       The role requires the delivery of supervision and consultation to the PMHS as well as supporting the ongoing service development of both perinatal psychology and the perinatal service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional and doctoral training in Clinical/Counselling psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society. HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
  • Post doctoral training in trauma approaches such as EMDR, Trauma focused CBT

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • Knowledge of theories and approaches to supporting staff relationships and dynamics
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist experience in the area of perinatal mental health.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of supervision of experienced and junior psychology staff and non-psychology staff
  • Solid experience of service development and clinical leadership
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of building relationships with services and organisations both internally and externally to the NHS trust, evidence of networking skills
