Lecturer (Occupational Therapist)
We are seeking a Specialist/Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist with experience in working with adults, who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to patients' lives. The successful candidate will work with our service users who have acquired brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, dementia and those who are ageing and frail. They will design and implement services that foster wellbeing and support independence through holistic interventions, promoting health creation so that our service users feel supported to manage their long-term health conditions. The successful candidate will also offer clinical supervision and contribute to the assessment of students on clinical placement within the Hub, including OT students and wider MDT professions, developing the future workforce through creative and innovative opportunities.
The job role will provide experience in working with complex presentations as well as offering regular CPD opportunities and personal development with a focus on wider workforce development.
Main duties of the role
- The post-holder will provide evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions to service-users with acquired brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, dementia and those who are ageing and/or frail.
- They will assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatments, and work closely with other disciplines in devising joint-working programmes for individuals and groups.
- They will liaise with relevant care professionals and agencies and external partners.
- They will develop their clinical educator and supervision skills as they provide high-quality clinical placement opportunities for student practitioners at the University of Essex.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post until 31 December 2026.
Please note that appointment to this post will be made as Lecturer.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants should have professional experience or practice equivalent to relevant doctoral level research degree or have or be close to completion of PhD and HCPC/RCOT registration as an Occupational Therapist. Substantial experience in providing evidence-based impactful service provision to a adults with diverse needs and conditions is essential.
Due to the nature of the work, applicants who are offered employment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS before the appointment is confirmed.
