Job overview
Our community cardiology team are seeking an exercise professional to join our cardiac rehab service. This is a job share post so you will be required to work Monday to Wednesday.
We are a team of nurses, physio, associate and assistant staff. We cover all of North East Essex so access to a car and a driving licence is essential.
We provide clinic based, class based and home based care, with the aim of supporting people to have quality of life, rehabilitation, and supporting how to manage their cardiac condition.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in the delivery of patient care, maximizing the cost-effective use of professional time, both clinically and non-clinically
- To assess patients, provide programme of advice and rehabilitation activities to patients with acute or chronic needs within the competency framework developed by the Physiotherapist or Nurse.
- To organise and run exercise classes in the community and on virtual platforms with the registered staff, maintaining high professional standards.
- Able to work independently without direct supervision, but under instruction from the qualified staff, reporting back patient progress and informing the qualified clinicians of any problems.
- To independently progress treatments of delegated patients with access to guidance and determine when the patients have met their discharge criteria.
- To participate in audit and data collection including coordinating the uploading of data to the national audit portal.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- • Support Workers Access Course/NVQ Level III/Level 1 or equivalent experience
- • Degree in Sport and Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology, registered as a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Certified Exercise Practitioner or BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist OR Recognised REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals) Level 4 Cardiac Disease (Rehab) qualification in exercise and fitness e.g. BACPR Exercise Instructor Training qualification and current registration with REPs at Level 4
Desirable criteria
- • Assistant member of professional body CSP
- • BACPR membership
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Working in fitness industry/rehabilitation setting or healthcare
- • Working in teams
- • Experience of community and hospital work
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of Cardiology work as an assistant.
Knowledge

- • Knowledge of the phases of cardiac rehabilitation and appropriate exercise for cardiac patients
- • Knowledge of the relevant strategic drivers eg NSF for CHD, BACPR Standards and Core Components for CR and NICE clinical guidelines
Desirable criteria
