Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an organised hardworking and enthusiastic individual to join us as the Patient Safety and Experience Coordinator for Cancer and Diagnostics Division.

The division includes Breast, Oncology, Medical Imaging, Pathology, Pharmacy and Radiation Services across our Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals and our Diagnostic Centres. You will be required to work cross site at Colchester and Ipswich Hospital.

As a member of the divisional governance team, you will support the management of patient safety and experience at divisional level. Assisting the Deputy Governance and Quality Manager in the co-ordination, implementation and delivery of the Trust Governance framework within the Division. 

We are looking for you to have some experience in patient safety and patient experience, however we will provide in-house training for you to further develop your skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

  • Monitor incidents being reported within the Division, ensuring they are invested and completed within Trust’s timescales
  • Support the Deputy Governance and Quality Manager in the finalisation of complaints responses where indicated, ensuring that all concerns have been answered and are written in a patient-centred way.
  • Interpreting and analysing reports, databases and spreadsheet documents, and cohesively communicating the findings efficiently and in an appropriate format.
  • Identifies and advises on risk themes, patterns or priorities arising from scrutinising complaints, and communicates needs for action or inclusion on the risk register.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Education to A-Level or equivalent with experience of working in the NHS in a Governance role
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level in governance / risk
  • Clinical qualification / experience

Knowledge / Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven knowledge and experience of clinical care within the NHS or healthcare setting; understanding the hospital as a whole.
  • Relevant training or experience of incident investigation, patient safety and risk management
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Success in working collaboratively across professions, services and organisational boundaries
  • Ability to work independently and process highly complex information quickly in order to identify risk and priorities for the Trust
  • Demonstrate ability to undertake analysis and to write clear and concise reports on progress and nature of serious clinical incident investigations
  • Understanding of how to promote a culture of patient safety improvement.
  • Familiarity and experience of using IT programmes. A working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of Databases, Datix, Word, excel
  • Experience of being involved in an incident/complaint where improvements have been made
  • Experience of facilitating training sessions & presentations
  • Clinical expertise and experience.
