Band 2
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
Phlebotomy (blood test) clinics are held at various sites (up to 5 sites) across the Mid & South Essex region. Depending upon the location, the post-holder may be required to undertake both reception duties and/or call-handler duties. The post-holder should expect to rotate between sites; a base site will be confirmed on appointment.
The receptionist duties include welcoming patients into the phlebotomy clinic and booking them into the clinic software using a PC and designated software. They will direct patients into the waiting room and ensure that they are guided into the phlebotomy room for their appointment. Other general administrative duties may be required such as printing, photocopying, filing, receiving post and so on.
The call-handler duties are to support the call centre in booking appointments for patients who choose to make their appointment by telephone rather than online. This will involve the use of the clinic software. Other administrative tasks may be required such as preparation of clinic lists.
Main duties of the job
You will perform reception and/or call-handler duties for Phlebotomy (blood test) clinics within the Mid & South Essex region.
The clinic receptionist will greet patients and book the patient into the clinic using designated software and direct the patient to the waiting area. Some may require further assistance or have questions or concerns and the receptionist must respond to in a professional manner either by answering directly or by directing the patient to the phlebotomy supervisory team.
The call-handler duties involve receiving calls from phlebotomy patients. They may wish to book an appointment by telephone, reschedule an appointment, or may have queries relating to using the online appointment booking platform.
