Job overview
The post holder carries responsibility for the assessment and advising on management of patients presenting with mental health difficulties on wards and within the Accident and Emergency department in West Essex. This is for all adults over the age of 18years including those with dementia.
To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in close co-operation with hospital based and primary health care based professionals. They will be responsible for the maintenance of standards of care within the Team and actively participate in the training and education of staff from allied agencies.
The further developed Mental Health Liaison service will enable the opportunity for extending joint work with already established on-site specialist services. The post holder will support and enable specialist expertise in integrated physical and mental health approaches and intensive support for dementia. The post holder will provide additional support in the active management of those with psychological issues related to frequent attendances to the general hospital,
Main duties of the job
Following the successful bid to enhance the mental health liaison service across West Essex, we are in the position to further develop the CORE 24 liaison service. National drivers such as the Crisis Care concordat and Five Year Forward View for Mental Health have strengthened these partnerships through the development and commitment of multi agency initiatives.
Working collaboratively with Lead Clinicians in ensuring that Clinical Practice Development is an inherent part of the service delivery within the organisation. In addition, they will also be responsible for ensuring that an integrated service is provided to the patients and ensure that a good inter-disciplinary working environment is maintained.

To liaise effectively with staff on the general wards and maintain accurate nursing records that provide assessment reports to GPs and other allied agencies
Have a sound knowledge/understanding of the legislation as part of the role of the Registered Mental Health Nurse, including Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act. Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Access to Information Act 1991, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and CPA. NICE Dementia Guidelines and National Dementia Strategy. Safeguarding.

Essential criteria
- • Registration Mental Health Nurse RMN Part 3 or equivalent social work/AHP qualification
Desirable criteria
- Specific training in a recognised therapy e.g EMDR, CBT, DBT
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Understanding of / and the ability to conduct assessments and review of care in line with the requirements of the mental health care clusters
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of the Paris Clinical Information System
