Job overview

The acute adult dietetic team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust are seeking a motivated and passionate band 7 dietitian to lead the service to our critical care unit. We have a 7 bedded ICU and a 6 bedded HDU.

The post holder will have clinical responsibility for a designated caseload on critical care and will organise this effectively and efficiently, being flexible according to clinical and service priorities. They will have the ability to conduct nutritional assessments, including calculating nutritional requirements and interpreting medical information, to implement individualised, evidence-based treatment plans.

This post is highly complex and will include ethical decision-making as part of a team. 

This is a part time post of 22.5 hours per week. Days and times can be negotiated.

Main duties of the job

To be the lead dietitian for the critical care unit, reviewing and improving the service provided to the hospital and provide expert advice for other members of the team. You will also cover other general wards

 

To cover TPN rounds, attend Nutrition Steering Group meetings as required

 

To organise the in-service training aspect of our monthly department meetings

 

To supervise junior dietitians

 

To work with the other band 7 dietitians in the running of the department, helping to organise workload to cover sickness and annual leave

 

To oversee our requests for work experience and volunteering within the dietetic department and also to take an active role in supporting dietetic students from our local university.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics, or equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • Registered as a Dietitian with the HCPC
  • Additional courses/training in relevant clinical areas such as critical care or parenteral nutrition
Desirable criteria
  • Additional courses/training in management and leadership

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience managing a specialist Dietetic caseload within an acute setting.
  • Experience managing and developing junior staff
  • Experience within critical care
  • Experience with delivering significant projects or service improvements

Skills

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
