An exciting opportunity to join our critical care team as a band 6 charge nurse has arisen, we are looking for passionate, enthusiastic, dedicated experienced critical care nurses to join our team to support leading the department to excellence. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual seeking to advance in their career as their first charge nurse role, or for someone experienced looking for a change of department. We will offer support to complete CCN3 step 4 competencies and leadership development. 

You must have competed your 60-credit critical care course in addition to your step 1 – 3 competencies for critical care, or expected to complete by September 2025.

We are a diverse team who strive for further improvement and will be able to support you to develop and enhance your knowledge, leadership and management skills. You will be providing patient centred care in the heart of all you do with the full support of the multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. 

You will be responsible for the care and development of both junior colleagues and student nurses, creating an atmosphere conductive to learning and practice development, whilst also planning, providing and maintaining effective nursing care to our patients/clients and their relatives.

To provide effective clinical and holistic individualised person-centred care to the patients and families, ensuring delivery is to the highest standard.

Always maintaining evidenced-based practice, being responsible for updating own knowledge and skills in line with the Trust polices and NMC Code.

Developing leadership skills, actively participating in service development. To take charge and run the department on a shift-by-shift basis, supporting the senior nursing team to deliver a well lead unit, act as an advocate for both staff and patients to ensure safe care to our patients.

Support and lead, as appropriate, the safe patient flow through critical care unit working in partnership with the operations and site teams.

Ensure competence on our electronic patient health record system (AlexHealth) and compliance with documentation as per trust policy.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
