Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a dedicated focus on Urgent Gynaecology Care, Recurrent Miscarriage, Gynae Scanning, and Termination of Pregnancy. We seek candidates with established expertise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, coupled with a demonstrated commitment to enhancing patient safety, optimizing team performance, and improving pathways in urgent gynaecology services.
The successful applicant will participate in a 1:14 on-call rota, providing emergency gynaecology cover and contributing to general obstetrics and gynaecology services. This position entails active involvement in managing acute gynaecological conditions, leading multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high standards of care in urgent and early pregnancy settings. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to early pregnancy and specialized Gynecology/ recurrent miscarriage clinics, elective and emergency gynaecology theatres, and termination of pregnancy services.As part of the urgent gynaecology care service, the appointed consultant will oversee the delivery and development of urgent gynecology triage pathways, ensuring timely assessment and management of emergency gynaecology cases. The post offers 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with the flexibility to develop additional roles and responsibilities through mutual agreement

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Full GMC registration • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)* • Must be expecting to receive CCT within the next six months to be eligible for interview. All other candidates must already be on the GMC Specialist Register. • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC*
- • CCST or Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST • RCOG ATSM or similar in Labour ward • Experience in Simulation Training lead or PROMPT training • RCOG ATSM in General Gynecology (As the Post covers Both general Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Desirable criteria
- • Additional RCOG ATSM(s) or equivalent in Gynaecological Ultrasound, Hysteroscopy, or Gynaecological Oncology. • Experience in developing and improving urgent gynaecology pathways. • Experience in leading a gynaecology service or implementing quality improvement initiatives in acute urgent gynaecology
Management
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of management and administration experience • Previous relevant Clinical Leadership role
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- • CCST or clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST. • RCOG ATSM or equivalent experience in Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy. • Expertise in gynaecological ultrasound, including scanning for early pregnancy complications and urgent gynaecological conditions • Experience in managing recurrent miscarriage and leading early pregnancy clinics. • Experience in termination of pregnancy services, including pathway development and service delivery
Desirable criteria
- • Additional clinical experience/training that may be required • Additional RCOG ATSM(s) in Obstetrics or Gynecology (Acute Gynecology/Early Pregnancy or Hysteroscopy or Colposcopy or High-risk Pregnancy) are desirable.
Teaching and Research
Essential criteria
- • Experience in supervising junior staff • Experience in teaching gynaecological ultrasound skills or early pregnancy management
